Tomic picks Kooyong for Australian Open preparation, Anisimova set to take Australia by stormPosted on December 3, 2018
The 2019 Kooyong Classic continues to build a stellar field with the addition of Australia’s own Bernard Tomic, establishing itself as a must see, must attend event on the Summer sporting calendar.
After a trying start to 2018, Tomic will look to build upon a strong second half to his 2018 season following victory at the Chengdu Open in September. Tomic noted, “I’m keen to get back to Kooyong for the 2019 Classic. It should be the perfect preparation for the AO.”
Tournament director Peter Johnston was complimentary of Tomic’s return to form, expressing “Tomic has worked so hard this year to rebuild his ranking. With his tournament victory in Chengdu in September he was one of only two Aussies to win an ATP Title this year and he’s gotten back to the point where he is directly into the main draw of the AO. Hopefully the Kooyong Classic is the ideal preparation for the Australian Open as he will be in a field with the World’s best in Del Potro, Anderson and Cilic.”
US phenom Amanda Anisimova will be playing at Kooyong for the first time, making it two US players competing in the women’s field alongside compatriot CoCo Vandeweghe. At 17-years of age, she is the youngest woman inside the WTA Top 100 rankings, and her 2018 form suggests 2019 will be a breakout year for the former junior US Open champion.
The 2019 Kooyong Classic will be broadcast live and streamed online on SBS from 11 am to 4 pm on each day of the event.
