Peng Shuai and Jack Sock added to impressive Kooyong Classic fieldPosted on December 11, 2018
Two-time Grand Slam doubles champion China’s Peng Shuai is the latest addition to the 2019 Kooyong Classic Women’s field. A former World No. 1 in doubles and China’s best-ever female player behind Li Na, Shuai takes her place alongside US star CoCo Vandeweghe and up-and-coming US phenom Amanda Anisimova.
Meanwhile, three-time Grand Slam doubles winner and current World Number 2 in doubles Jack Sock, has been added to the men’s field. The US Davis Cup Team regular, and former singles Top Tenner, adds an exciting element to the men’s field, joining World Number 5, 6 & 7 Juan Martin Del Potro, Kevin Anderson and Marin Cilic, along with Australia’s Bernard Tomic and France’s Richard Gasquet.
Tournament Director Peter Johnston highlighted the appeal of both players, noting it’s “great to add both Peng Shuai and Jack Sock to the Kooyong roster. They are two real crowd favourites around the world. Peng Shuai won the AO Asian wildcard and Sock won the US wildcard at the AO, so now they are in the AO main draw, they are looking to the Kooyong Classic to provide the perfect tune up.”
